Mesothelioma Grants & Financial Assistance Directory (Verified 2026)

Every program below was individually checked by hand on August 3, 2026 — including whether it is currently accepting applications. Many “grants for mesothelioma” lists online are copied from each other and list funds that closed or organizations that no longer exist. We list closed funds with their real status instead of hiding them, because funds reopen when new funding arrives.

Recent changes families (and resource pages) should know about

• The PAN Foundation no longer exists as a standalone organization. It merged with the Patient Advocate Foundation (announced March 2026); the combined program is TotalAssist, live since July 1, 2026. Lists still sending families to “apply at PAN” are out of date.
• CancerCare’s mesothelioma co-payment fund is currently closed to new applications (as of August 3, 2026). It is the only mesothelioma-named copay fund we found anywhere — we list it below so you can check when it reopens.
• Patient Advocate Foundation’s “Co-Pay Relief” brand is retired — its old site now redirects to TotalAssist.
• The Assistance Fund has rebranded as TAF Cares (tafcares.org).

How to use this directory

Start with the mesothelioma-specific and veterans programs — they exist for your exact situation. Then layer on the general cancer funds, free travel and lodging help, and household programs. Mesothelioma-specific help

Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (Meso Foundation)

Reimburses travel costs (lodging, gas, flights, rideshare/taxi, parking) for a mesothelioma patient plus one caregiver traveling to see a mesothelioma specialist or to participate in a clinical trial.

• How much: Up to $1,000 for a one-time initial-consultation trip; up to $6,000 total (disbursed in increments up to $1,000 per trip) for patients enrolled in a clinical trial, capped at two clinical trials overall.
• Who qualifies: Mesothelioma patients (residents of all 50 states) traveling for an initial consult with a mesothelioma expert or for an interventional clinical trial listed on clinicaltrials.gov; covers the patient plus one caregiver.

CancerCare Co-Payment Assistance Foundation — Malignant Mesothelioma Fund

Copayment assistance for chemotherapy and targeted-treatment medication costs specifically for malignant mesothelioma (ICD-10 C45.x).

• How much: $5,000 initial grant, program cap of $10,000 if initial funds are exhausted
• Who qualifies: Malignant mesothelioma diagnosis (ICD-10 C45, C45.0, C45.1, C45.2, C45.7, C45.9); insured through a federal program (Medicare, Medicaid, or TRICARE); income at or below 500% of Federal Poverty Level; valid SSN; in active treatment or with a treatment plan in place.

Veterans and surviving spouses

VA Disability Compensation — Asbestos Exposure

Tax-free monthly disability compensation payments for veterans with a health condition (including mesothelioma) caused by asbestos exposure during military service.

• How much: Varies by disability rating and dependents — see the VA’s current rate table. (For reference, the 2026 table shows a 100%-rated veteran with a spouse receives $4,158.17/month, per VA.gov.)
• Who qualifies: Veterans with a diagnosed health condition caused by asbestos exposure while serving (shipyard work, insulation, demolition, mining, construction, manufacturing); requires medical + service records and a doctor’s nexus statement.

VA Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC)

Tax-free monthly benefit paid to surviving spouses, children, or parents of a veteran who died from a service-connected condition (including mesothelioma).

• How much: $1,699.36/month base rate for a surviving spouse (effective Dec 1, 2025), with add-ons: +$360.85 (8-year provision), +$421.00 (Aid and Attendance / per dependent child), +$197.22 (housebound).

Healthcare Hospitality Network (HHN)

A national network of member ‘hospitality houses’ providing lodging and support to patients/caregivers traveling for treatment; HHN itself is the trade association, not a direct lodging provider.

Mercy Medical Angels

Free non-emergency medical transportation — air (volunteer pilot and commercial), ground, bus/train tickets, and gas cards — to get patients to treatment.

Which volunteer-pilot group covers your region

Air Charity Network above is an umbrella. The flights are actually run by regional member groups, and calling the right one directly is usually faster. All four below are free to the passenger and were checked on August 5, 2026.

Two we deliberately left out: Miracle Flights only flies patients aged 0 to 17, so it does not apply to almost any mesothelioma family; and Patient AirLift Services could not be verified on August 5, 2026, so we would rather not list it than list it unchecked.

Caregiver support

CancerCare Caregiver Support Groups

Free, professionally led (oncology social workers) emotional and practical support groups for caregivers of cancer patients, including groups specific to spouses/partners and adult children caring for a parent with cancer.

211 (National Referral Helpline)

Free, confidential referral service connecting callers to local help for housing, utilities, food, healthcare, and caregiver resources — by phone (dial 211) or web.

A note on asbestos trust funds

Separate from every grant above, companies that made asbestos products were required to set aside money in trust funds for people they harmed. Filing a trust claim is a legal process, not a grant application, and what a family may receive depends on their specific exposure history.
